Madden photoJill (’10 genetics) is an ISU doctoral student with a 4.0 GPA who studies the effects of chemotherapy drugs on ovaries, and while her academic record is incredibly impressive it is her commitment to serving the less fortunate that truly distinguishes her as an outstanding alumna. Jill is a longtime nighttime shelter advocate for ACCESS, a facility that provides shelter and services for men, women, and children who have experienced sexual assault or need refuge from violence. She has also traveled on six mission trips to Jamaica, served as international scholar laureate program participant on a medical mission to China, mentors both graduate and undergraduate students in ISU’s genetics program, and served on the board of the YWCA.

Jill on…

…her favorite spot on the ISU campus: “It is hard to beat central campus on a beautiful spring day, but my favorite place to go any time of the year is the room on the second floor of the library with all the murals. It’s gorgeous!”

…what would make the world a better place: “if we thought of others before ourselves”

…the everyday item she can’t live without: “coffee”

…what’s next for her: “I am always thinking about where I can go next. I love to travel, so making it to all the continents is my ultimate dream.”
